As children, we grow up watching and falling in love with Disney movies. As young girls, we dream of being the beautiful Princess and finding that Prince Charming. I mean, it’s such a great story. Girl meets beautiful boy, falls in love with this perfect character and then they live happily ever . Problem with this is, many girls go their whole life searching for this storybook character. They seek perfection. Guess what ladies, perfection does not exist.
I know first hand that Prince Charming is truly only a fictional character. What may seem like a, “Prince Charming” type, is usually a facade. And, let me tell you what, I am the first to admit, that “What is too good to be true, usually is.” So, instead of teaching our daughters about searching and not settling until they find their Prince Charming, let’s focus on finding a perfectly, imperfect soulmate.
Knowing what I know now, I would much rather have the “real deal”, than someone who is masked as Prince Charming, to later reveal his true colors. True colors that are not, very charming.
Perfectly imperfect would be the man who is kind, honest and loyal. He’s the one who may have a bad day and may have a hair out of place, but he’s also the one who is true to himself and the people around him. He’s the man that makes you laugh and wipes your tears. He’s the one who tells you what you NEED to hear, even if you don’t want to hear it. He’s a best friend, not just a pretty face. He’s the one that you don’t have to question his intentions or motives.
Let’s face it ladies, Prince Charming is nice to watch in the movies. Movies are such a great escape from reality. But, let’s remember that these are, characters. And, in real life, we don’t want to live with someone playing a role.
