Lately it seems like I am always thinking ahead, trying to look in to the future, preparing myself for both the best and worst case scenarios. Understandably with 4 kids, there has to be a bit of preparation for tomorrow, or life could get a little chaotic. Ok, maybe a lot chaotic!
I understand first hand that life can change on a dime and throw some major curveballs. And, I am the first to admit that, “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”. I’m happy to say that I’ve never known such a true, true statement. That in itself is all the reason to live more in the moment and less in the future, because no amount of stress can change an outcome. Things in the end always seem to work themselves out if you just keep moving forward.
I never in a million years saw myself divorced. That was something I definitely didn’t, “prepare myself for the future” for. I mean, who ever does? If we did, we would never be happy with the moments and people in front of us. I also never in a million years saw my husband of 14 years and “best” friend of 11 years committing the ultimate betrayal. I mean, who does such a thing? It’s the ultimate question and one many of us couldn’t even begin to answer because it’s thankfully not in our character. It’s beyond understanding and even trying to make sense of. But, that’s a whole other story.
So, with all that said, I decided that I am going to stop worrying about what’s to come or “what-ifs”. I’m going to take each day as it comes, instead of wasting the day away with questions about tomorrow. When we over think a situation and worry, we are just wasting precious moments in time. Life is too short and too unpredictable to waste any second of it. We need to “roll with the punches”, “go with the flow”, and let life just happen on its own.
In order to follow my own advice, I decided to make a “to-do” list for the mind. These are things to do when you catch your mind wandering in to the worry or over thinking zone. If you find yourself over thinking or worrying, just pick something off the list and as Nike would say, “Just Do It”!
